Stray Cats
HSNEI's goal is to help as many homeless, adoptable cats as possible while ensuring the health of the cats already in our care, and operating within our state licensing limits. So, if you find a stray cat in our area please fill out the form below. Unfortunately the Center and all of our foster homes are frequently full, but we will let you know when or how we may be able to help.
To enter the Center cats must also be free of obvious disease and be calm enough to be handled by staff and volunteers. Note, if the cat has the left ear tip missing it is a cat that has been spayed or neutered as part of our feral cat program so cannot be taken into the Center.
Please note: At this time, we are at capacity on cats and there is a waitlist. Fill out the stray form if you would like to be placed on the waitlist for cats.
Feral Cats
Feral cats tend to be difficult to handle and are accustomed to living in colonies outdoors. As grant funds allow, HSNEI can help reduce the feral cat population in an area. However, feral cats cannot be admitted to HSNEI's Adoption Center.
Please fill out the feral cat/TNR assistance form, if you would be able to help reduce a feral cat population in your area if given a TNR voucher. HSNEI does have live traps to loan out. TNR projects involve volunteers live trapping cats, transporting them to the veterinarian for spay/neuter, and transporting them back to their original location to release them. Research has proven that spay/neutering cats and returning them to their colonies where they reduce naturally is the most effective method of reducing the population.
HSNEI does not have the staff to conduct the TNR project but may be able to assist financially as we have grant funds available.
Stray Dogs
Stray dogs can be admitted to the Adoption Center as there is room. Please call HSNEI at 563-382-0500 to inquire if we can take in the dog.
Dogs entering the Center need to be friendly and free of obvious disease for the safety of our animals, volunteers and staff.
HSNEI will list all stray dogs on our Facebook page to attempt to find their home. If the dog is not claimed in 5 days they will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and health tested before being placed for adoption.
