Part time Animal Care Assistant


HSNEI is looking for an enthusiastic, versatile, team-player to serve as an evening Animal Care Assistant.  This person must be able to pay close attention to detail and follow written directions on animal care.  They must enjoy working with animals in outdoor and indoor environments during all seasons.  They must also be able to provide excellent customer service with a friendly and positive attitude.  Please submit a letter of interest and resume to


HOURS: 6-9pm Monday through Sunday



Cleans and disinfects cat condos, dog kennels and other areas as needed

Performs tasks assigned in the daily animal care log on a daily basis, including administering medication as needed

Handles dogs and cats, including those of unknown temperament, aggression, sick or injured

Visually inspects animals for overall health problems and reports issues to the Operations Director

Ensures and maintains the proper handling of animals throughout the shelter in accordance with HSNEI Policies

Maintains a professional and cordial working attitude

Provides excellent customer service and assistance to volunteers

Respects HSNEI dogs and cats and treats them with the utmost kindness and compassion



Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Ability to have close contact with domesticated animals

Ability to handle, restrain, lift and move domesticated animals

Ability to work in a team oriented and frequently changing environment

Full-Time Animal Care Coordinator


The Humane Society of Northeast Iowa (HSNEI) is seeking a full-time Animal Care Coordinator. The Animal Care Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of HSNEI’s animal population (cats and dogs) at the L&F Adoption Center in Decorah, IA. The position’s main purpose is to oversee and assist with daily care and cleaning protocols, and ensure efficient movement of animals through the Center, from intake to adoption. The Animal Care Coordinator works directly with other members of the management team to determine appropriate and responsible plans for animals within HSNEI’s care and to further HSNEI’s mission of helping abused, neglected, abandoned, and unwanted companion animals in the five-county area of Northeast Iowa. We are looking for someone with compassion for animals and human beings, and a commitment to the mission, values, and goals of HSNEI. The position requires dedication, teamwork, and strong communication skills. Though not required, veterinary office experience is a plus.
