Diesel: The Gentle Giant

The first time I saw Diesel I was in absolute awe of how big he is. Part of me still is, but now I am more obsessed with making everyone know that he is such a great dog. I talk about Diesel like he’s the best thing since sliced bread, because in all honesty? He definitely is. Actually, I feel pretty confident saying that Diesel is in fact better than sliced bread. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t hear volunteers or other interns say something positive about Diesel, so I’m confident that I’m not alone in my appreciation for him.

Diesel is a four-year-old 108 pound Shepherd mix with the demeanor of a saint, though he definitely has mischievous moments every once in a while. He is one of the shelter’s easiest dogs to walk, which makes the time you spend outside with him an absolute breeze. He never pulls on his leash or tries to reroute a walk in a direction you’d rather not go. He’s very content to go with the flow and seems to trust that wherever you’re going is where he needs to be as well. However, this is not the case when you try to bring him back to his kennel. Diesel would rather be outside than indoors any day, and tries to stop you from bringing him in by dropping to the floor and rolling around on his back while he pouts. These guilt trips work very well on me, but other people with stronger wills are able to get him back inside if they tug on his leash a bit. In every other situation, Diesel is very well-behaved and is able to endear himself to everyone he meets. Diesel is a fantastic dog, and while I will be very jealous of whoever ends up adopting him, he definitely deserves to find a household more than happy to take him on as many walks as his heart desires.
