HSNEI Board of Directors
Hayley Jackson
Community Leader
Hayley lives in Decorah, Iowa with her cat, adopted from HSNEI in 2017. She works at Luther College and has been volunteering with HSNEI since 2015. As a lifelong animal lover, she looks forward to supporting HSNEI's mission of caring for cats and dogs needing homes and snuggles in Northeast Iowa.
Terry Gaumer
Community Leader
Terry Gaumer serves as the Affiliate Development Director for the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. Terry has been married to her husband Pete for over 26 years and is the proud grandmother of Oliver and Sylvia. Terry and Pete live in Independence with their 3 dogs, Forrest, Jenny, and Charly, all adopted through HSNEI. Terry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position, with over 30 years of marketing and financial service experience, including extensive work in financial planning strategies. She holds four professional designations, including most recently earning the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation. Terry also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin. Pete and Terry also volunteered with HSNEI fostering “big” dogs from 2013 to 2016. Over that time about 30 dogs joined the Gaumer home for anywhere from 24 hours to 6 months. Terry commented that it was the BEST volunteer job they had ever had.
Matt Larson
Community Leader
Matt and his family live in Decorah, IA. His first contact with HSNEI came 11 years ago when Maverick (a Rottweiler/Greyhound mix brought north from a high kill shelter in OH) adopted Matt and his family (that's not a typo - Maverick chose them, they just went along with it). Maverick is an amazing dog, and the love he's brought to Matt's family really opened their eyes to the mission of adopting remarkable critters that would otherwise languish. Maverick has since been joined by Cookie (a rehomed Golden Retriever). Matt was an active volunteer walking dogs at the shelter for several years pre-Covid, and is grateful to be able to further the mission of HSNEI in a new way by serving on the board.
