Social Media Internship

Responsibilities include:

  • Using online tools to expand HSNEI's social networking efforts: twitter, Instagram, Blog

  • Taking photos and videos of the animals to present to the public

  • Volunteering with animals at the shelter to gain insight to HSNEI’s work and mission

 

Strong intern applicants have a passion for communication and social media and meet the following requirements:

  • Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work well independently, show initiative and use good judgment

  • Knowledge of social media platforms

Interns are expected to commit to 10 hours per week for approximately 15 weeks in Fall or Spring, and January and Summer internships can work up to 36 hours per week. Interns may arrange to receive course credit for these unpaid internships.

Animal Care Internship

Interns are expected to work a regularly scheduled shift that includes, but is not limited to:

  • Daily care of animals including: kennel/cage cleaning, feeding, watering, dishes, laundry

  • Canine and Feline enrichment

  • Behavior evaluation and modification

  • Assisting with behavior classes

  • Reporting medical and behavioral observations

  • Intake exams and assessments

Strong intern applicants have a passion for animals, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work in a team.

Interns must sign a volunteer waiver and release of liability. The position is located at the HSNEI Love & Friendship Adoption Center in Decorah, Iowa.
